Personal:

I have been married for 24 years to my wonderful wife Beverly. We have two beautiful daughters Riley-13 and Ally-10.In my 20's I ran a lot to get into shape to fight in the tough man contests. Now that I am in my 40's the love of running is back but the boxing is long gone.

Today I ran the Living Waters 5k in Decatur AL. It had rained all night but stopped this morning. The temperature was perfect. My plan for this race was to start slow and settle in to a 7:20 / pace.

The race started and I glanced at my garmin at a 1/2 mile and I was at a 6:51/pace!! I am not fit enough to run a 5k at that pace yet.Tried to slow down and settle in. The first mile came in at 7:22.

The second mile I started to labor because of my fast start. I guess?? I could not get into a rythm. The second mile was a 7:58.

The third mile was much of the same.(me struggling) I had to put the hammer down to preserve a 23:54 finish. Lucky for me it was good enough for second in my age division. The third mile was at 8:01. :( This is a awesome course and I should have done better. John Elmore was the race director and did a great job.(as always)

It's always nice to take home some hardware! Great job sticking with it despite the fast start, those can be a real killer sometimes.

nice job. Sorry I wasn't able to stick around to talk. After I did the results, I had to run home. Elliott had a dr. appt.

No problem, I hope that he feels better.
